Two Snow Hares Wall Art – 1911 Woodcut by Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita

About the Artwork

Two Snow Hares (1911) by Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita is a masterful black-and-white woodcut, combining bold silhouette with delicate line work. The simplicity of the white hares against a richly textured backdrop evokes calm, purity, and contrast. Ideal for modern or minimalist interiors, this timeless piece bridges fine art and graphic design—perfect for those who appreciate nature, restraint, and the quiet elegance of early 20th-century printmaking.

About the Artist

Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita (1868–1944) was a Dutch graphic artist renowned for his woodcuts, etchings, and prints. Influenced by Art Nouveau and Japanese design, his work often featured animals and stylised forms. A mentor to M.C. Escher, he was a prominent figure in Dutch printmaking. Tragically, he died in Auschwitz during the Holocaust, leaving behind a powerful artistic legacy.
