Paul Klee Art Print

About the Artwork

During World War I, every moment that he could get away from his clerical duties in the paymaster’s office at Gersthofen, near Augsburg, Klee devoted to his work. He would take a box of watercolours and paint out-of-doors. Here, painted in 1917, a green moon and its mauve crescent are the only curved forms within an angular composition whose rectangles, triangles, and squares suggest the roofs and facades of houses.

About the Artist

Paul Klee (1879–1940) was a Swiss-born German artist renowned for his innovative use of colour, abstract forms, and playful compositions. A prominent member of the Bauhaus movement, Klee's works drew from diverse influences, including Cubism, Surrealism, and Expressionism. His paintings often merged whimsical, dreamlike elements with meticulous structure. With over 10,000 works, Klee's art defied conventional categorisation, leaving a lasting impact on modern art through its emotional depth and inventive style.
