This series of wall art celebrates the Mark Rothko retrospective held at the Guggenheim Museum, New York in 1978-79, which at the time was the most complete survey of Rothko’s art and included a total of nearly 215 works.
Among them were more than 35 works on paper - many exhibited for the first time - which ranged from watercolours and small preparatory studies of the 1930s and 1940s to large-scale paintings on paper from the final years of the artist’s life. The New York presentation, curated by Diane Waldman then at the Guggenheim, was the largest on this multicity tour in the United States.
Mark Rothko, born Markus Yakovlevich Rothkowitz, was a Latvian-American abstract painter. He is best known for his color field paintings that depicted irregular and painterly rectangular regions of color, which he produced from 1949 to 1970.
A great image for framing behind glass, or block mounting on canvas to create a focal point and conversation piece in any contemporary abstract art lover's home.
